Seneca College is excited to announce a new youth employment program being offered at the Seneca Newmarket location!

Seneca College has been delivering employment and training programs in Newmarket for over 20 years, helping unemployed community members gain valuable job search skills and employment counselling support. Now at the 16655 Yonge Street location in Newmarket, they are delivering a unique program focused on helping youth.

“This program is designed to give youth the opportunity to explore careers, learn job search skills and understand workplace expectations” says Amy Koning, Manager. “We treat the program like it is a job. They are expected to arrive to classes on time, actively participate and complete all training and assignments, all while earning a wage. We then work with local employers to offer a paid placement where they can expand their workplace knowledge and have the opportunity to network and obtain references.”

Funded by the Government of Canada, the program offers 4 weeks in class where participants learn job search skills, explore careers opportunities, learn life skills and secure valuable certificates in First Aid, WHMIS and Customer Service.

“I didn’t think I would like the program,” says Dom, a young job seeker about to start a placement. “But after meeting the facilitator, I knew I was in good hands. The program has exceeded my expectations and taught me many skills I can use to improve my life.”

Alexandra shares “the program taught me valuable skills, like the soft skills that employers value most “

New start dates are being offered this September and November. For more information visit www.workforceready.ca or call the centre to book an appointment with an employment consultant to see if you are eligible – 905-898-6199
